![]() Well looks like it's going to be kodi.Īfter playing around with kodi some i discovered that it's very custom friendly, especially given the kodi folder / file structure, it's easy to edit / modify just the skin files without having to touch any kodi core files which is awesome, and by editing just the skin files you can do quite a bit.Īs i mentioned all i was looking for was a slick "eye candy" front end for my movie files, wasn't interested in an all-in-one media hub, have found that other apps and programs handle these tasks perfectly well, the spotify desktop player for example, nor was i interested in a cross platform server setup, but instead just a cool movie front end.Īnyway after some file tweaking i'm pretty much there, as shown below. anyway i have the dpi set relatively high in order to read menu text of other programs, wondering if that's causing the prob? thing is, window resizing works fine for all other programs, works as it should, so i don't know why it would effect opht? i'm wondering if my windows display settings have something to do with it, i have a 27" 2560x1440 monitor attached to my w10 machine (this is my main machine that i use every day, which i'm using to test out these programs, the media programs(s) i decide on will be installed on a different machine). when the openpht is windowed, and i grab a corner of the window (with the mouse, mouse works for this but not from within the opht environment ) to further shrink the window size or increase it, the window animation is jerky during resizing, it stutters, and even resizes to unexpected sizes, it's very weird. i guess those were old threads and mouse control is now a setting?Ģ. so a mouse can work? even in fullscreen? was just now perusing the openpht board and came across threads stating that openpht was intentionally built to not include mouse control, just keyboard, but there were some involved, seemingly complicated, workarounds. Again, not trying to push you in any direction.more just trying to give you input as to my experience on the journey to find the best media player for my setup.Ĭlick to expand.as always, thank you very much for the very helpful response, it has inspired me to reinstall openpht and give it another whirl.ġ. I'm not sure what your content is (video, TV shows, movies etc), but you might even consider Windows Media Center in Windows 10 (which you have to install now), but that may be an option for you as well. ![]() ![]() It sounds like you are looking for somethign pretty modest that just works for you to access your media. I've used Boxee, I've used PS3 media server, tversity, Kodi, Front Ends for media access for the car etc. It has better codec support with more audio options. It looks a lot more like some of the Kodi skins. It was based on the older Plex Home Theater (which is no longer supported) The layout is substantially better (in my opinion). OpenPHT is a fork of plex that was designed by the team that created Plex for the Raspberry Pi (Rasplex). I don't know of a solution that is quite that simple, but as someone previously pointed out.Kodi has a LOT of options, it's open source so there are endless possibilities however, the tradeoff is quite a bit of work has to go into it once you start customizing the install, and then potential compatibility issues for different skins etc. Unless I misunderstand what you are looking for.you don't want somethign you have to do a lot of "tinkering" with. For one, I don't think the Kodi solution is for you.
